Are you counting down how many days til Christmas 2025? It’s time to be festive and make some holiday crafts. I’m so excited to be part of this 12 Days of Christmas ornament hop. Each day, a new artisan is featured with their handmade Christmas ornament idea. Today, I’m sharing a how to make a pinecone flower ornament.

This is a fun and easy Christmas craft with a natural look, using pinecones, a wood slice and hot glue. If you like easy and elegant Christmas DIY’s, read on!
What You’ll Need
- 1-2 small pinecones
- 4” wood slice
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks (I recommend AdTech Artistick string free glue sticks)
- Scorch Marker
- Heat Gun
- Durable scissors or floral snips
Step 1

Align your scissors or floral snips with the center of the pinecone and snip the core.

You’ll be left with sections of pinecone flowers. Aren’t nature inspired ornaments cool? Pinecones are crunchy; don’t worry if you lose a few pinecone petals. You can add them back in with hot glue in the next step.
Step 2

Create a layout of your favorite pinecone flowers on your wood slice. For this design, I created a cascade of layered pinecone flowers down in an asymmetrical design on the left side of the wood slice.

Take time to be creative in this step. Try different layouts until you have the look you love. Once you’ve decided on a design, glue the pinecone flowers down with hot glue. Pro tip: I use AdTech Artistick string free glue sticks for a professional, mess free result.
Step 3
As you create your handmade ornament, you may wish to leave an open area to add a sentiment. This is where I enlisted the use of a favorite craft supply, a Scorch Marker. This trending craft supply is a marker with a special heat reactive gel instead of ink. What a great stocking stuffer for crafters!

If you’ve ever wanted to try woodburning, this makes it so easy! I added the word “Noel” to my ornament with a Scorch Marker, then applied heat using a heat gun.

The words were then permanently wood burned into the wood slice.
Step 4
Finally, the last step is to add a hanger for this handmade holiday ornament.

While I love a colorful Christmas, I thought this black and white striped grosgrain ribbon was beautiful with the look of this nature inspired ornament.

So glad you could spend a moment of your holiday season with me for this fun pinecone Christmas craft.
